What is Prayer really?

Printer-friendly versionSend to friend

Prayer is not limited to those who speak eloquently…in its truest form, it is humble communication with God, designed to develop an intimate relationship with Him.

As Jesus hung in agony on the Cross, a criminal, guilty of unspeakable acts, hung next to Him. This man, however, realized that Jesus was the Son of God and humbly asked, “Father, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” Jesus compassionately replied, “Today, you will be with me in Paradise.”

A humble plea was heard and granted…and today, a convicted felon walks the streets of gold in Heaven. That’s all it took to change that thief’s eternal destiny!

So how does this story apply to you? It’s simple…just pray. Just…

  • be yourself and say things exactly the way you say them every day
  • ask for Christ’s forgiveness when you make a mistake
  • ask for God’s will to be done in the next big decision or situation you’re facing
  • ask for patience, wisdom, peace and strength – no matter how difficult circumstances may be
  • ask Christ to be the Lord of your life and teach you how to trust Him more.

God listens. He’ll respond in a way that ensures the best long-term outcome – even though His timing and logic may defy yours.
